With support from an Urban Sustainability Director’s Network grant, CH2M HILL and subcontractor Portland Sustainability Institute worked with a pack of cities from across the U.S. to complete the sustainability framework and report, ‘North American EcoDistricts Program – Research and Program Design.’ Steph Stoppenhagen, CH2M HILL Sustainability Strategist and Client Service Manager, shares as well as discusses the final report and how the EcoDistricts Initiative focuses on removing implementation barriers and creating an enabling strategy to accelerate neighborhood-scale sustainability to a district-wide scale.

CH2M HILL Sustainability Strategist Lead Steph Stoppenhagen reports back from "Governing Magazine's" Summit on Sustainability, a national event designed to tackle the pressing issue of creating smart, sustainable, livable communities. A group of about 60 elected officials and business leaders openly discussed the topic of sustainability in the context of economic, health, social and environmental issues. Stoppenhagen spoke on the topic, ‘What Industry Thinks: New Ideas for Partners in Financing.’

First-of-its-Kind Web Portal Launched for Private Property Stormwater and Energy Evaluations

Earlier this month, the District of Columbia Department of Environment officially launched GreenUp DC, the world’s first web-based virtual tool which incentivizes individual property and business owners to install green infrastructure measures on their properties. CH2M HILL and Critigen developed the tool, which will specifically help promote the adoption of energy solutions and reduction of stormwater discharge in the District by helping property owners realize and understand their property’s energy usage and stormwater discharge. Steph Stoppenhagen, CH2M HILL Sustainability Strategist Lead, shares more about the portal, which is designed to help spur a shift to climate-friendly behaviors and continue the city’s transformation to an EcoDistrict.
